SUVs and pickup trucks may dominate the market right now, but that doesn't mean there's no longer room for cars—quite the opposite. Kia has proven that with strong marketing, bold design, cutting-edge technology, and aggressive pricing, a traditional sedan can still find success today. In fact, the Kia K4 has become so popular that the Korean automaker has decided to add a hatchback version for 2026, much to the delight of fans of the model.
Even though the K4 replaces the Forte, it brings a breath of fresh air to Kia's lineup with a more modern and daring look. It's a car that turns heads wherever it goes while offering an impressive level of equipment for its price. It's also enjoyable to drive and very comfortable for a vehicle in its class. In short, it has everything going for it, which explains why it has quickly carved out a place for itself in the segment.
Lineup and Pricing
The 2026 Kia K4 starts at $27,166, making it one of the few new vehicles still available under the $30,000 mark. Adding the hatchback version only requires an extra $500, which is quite reasonable. Next up is the EX trim at $29,966, which includes 17-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, and several useful driver assistance features. The EX+ adds a panoramic roof, synthetic leather seats, and several comfort upgrades for just $1,500 more. With the EX Premium model, you get ventilated front seats, advanced driver assistance systems, and more, all for $33,366. Performance starts to come into play with the GT-Line Turbo at a reasonable $34,966. Finally, the GT-Line Turbo Limited sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $37,966 before options.
Category and Competition
The Kia K4 competes in a segment where nothing is guaranteed. The established players are true institutions, and here comes Kia introducing a new model with a brand-new name. Despite that, the K4 quickly found its footing and continues to grow in popularity.
Rivals: Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, Nissan Sentra, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prius, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Golf
Design and Technology
The design of the Kia K4 was heavily criticized when it was first unveiled, which only proves that the Korean automaker did something right. Its silhouette is anything but anonymous, and it's a car that consistently turns heads. It also offers an attractive color palette and stylish wheels across the lineup. This is a car with strong character, something I truly appreciate.
Inside, the cabin is more restrained and modern. It takes some time to get used to the steering wheel design, but it offers a very comfortable grip. Comfort levels are excellent, and the K4 is surprisingly spacious for its size. Kia's compact sedan also delivers advanced technology, both in terms of infotainment and safety.
Performance
The 2026 Kia K4 offers two engine options, starting with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission that sends power to the front wheels. This setup allows the K4 to achieve an average fuel consumption of 7.0 L/100 km.
For those looking for more performance, the GT-Line features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This version benefits from an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Weak Points
Where is the high-performance N version? A hybrid variant would also be welcome. No all-wheel drive?
Strengths
This is a versatile, comfortable, and enjoyable car to drive. It turns heads and comes very well equipped.
Signature Element
Kia's compact sedan stands out thanks to its outstanding value for money and bold design.
Final Thoughts
The Kia K4 already made a strong impression when it first hit the market, but I have to say the brand has raised the bar with the hatchback version, which is simply stunning. As you can tell, I'm a fan—and I'm certainly not alone. If you haven't discovered it yet, this is a car I strongly encourage you to check out.
